Chief Arthur Eze had on Wednesday at Abia State capital, Umuahia, while speaking at an event to make t...he 23rd anniversary of the state apart from saying that “Abia stinks” referring to the decayed infrastructure and collapsed roads, admonished Gov. Theodore Orji to go to President Goodluck Jonathan if he was bereft of ideas on what to do again. According to him, Abia state is now the dirtiest in the country. “Garbage everywhere along with bad roads.
The people are really suffering, and you see it in their faces. Are there no elders in Abia again? What are the senators, the members of the Houseof Representativesand other elected people doing? Nothing!” A resident, John Ugwu said Chief Eze said things the way they are in the state, stating that the billionaire businessman spoke like a true Igbo son and an elder statesman which he is. He said the problem of Abia State was that it had no men in the mould of Chief Ezewhowouldlookthegovernor in the face and tell him he hasfailed, stressingthatwhat was in vogue in the state was the celebration of failure.
“I am not from Abia State, but I have lived here since 1970. The state has not had it so bad yet. The so called elders who have sold their consciences go about celebrating an administration that has put suffering on the faces of the people and that is why most of us are grateful to Chief Eze for summoning courage to tell Orji that he was not doing well and God will bless him for that.” A commercial bus driver who gave his name simply as Ndubuisi and plies from Aba to Umuahia said Chief Eze was supposed to be given an honour for speaking the truth on the state of things in Abia.
Ndubuisi who said he spends about six hours to get to Umuahia from Aba, a journey that should take 45 minutes, because of bad roads wondered what the billionaire businessman would say when he visits Aba, the commercial hub of the state if Umuahia that was regarded as the London of the State is so badly described.
His words: “If Chief Eze would visit Umuahia and speak so bad about the state, what will then happen if he visits Aba? Maybe he would be weeping inside his car because he would definitely not come down for lack of where to match his feet.” While thanking the oil magnet for saying things the way they are, he pleaded with him to come to Aba on a private visit in order to appreciate the enormity of the peoples sufferings
