One of my favourite songs of the late Fuji Creator, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, is the one in which he sang that the lunatic would love to get a haircut, but his busy schedule would not accommodate it.
But this image, like all other self images built around all other Aku sub nationalities, Yoruba to you, as well as other tribes, are just self aspirations, something to aspire to, but rarely achieved by a majority claiming such self adulation.
So, I laugh when Ekiti people, especially those expats in Lagos,Ibadan and Abuja, roll their eyes in horror at the comedy show Fayose has now taken on a foreign tour, starting with an appearance at a trade fair in China.
The truth is, Ayo Fayose is the new face of Ekiti; crude, brash, uncouth and a devil may care bravado that I am certain, is only skin deep.
Observing from afar, it is obvious that Mr.Fayose is an embittered and embattled man. Embittered because all his political permutations have gone South, and embattled because he knew he has enough skeletons in his cupboard to fill a medium size cemetery.
So he became the proverbial rat, who, because he cannot eat the grain, decided to waste it. Mr. Fayose's antics used to be amusing, and even sometimes downright hilarious, but not anymore.
There must be a method to his madness, but somehow I cannot see it. And he is losing the legitimate platform of opposing the government on the platter of crude slapstick sketches, and turning himself to a caricature, a slap on the face of the Ekiti people who voted for him twice, and who expected governance, not drama, from their governor.
It is never too late to change.
My Ten Kobo.
