I am really getting pissed off with the consistent whining about the Oshodi demolition, not so much about those who are perpetually playing the victim card, which is getting so old, but the state governor who is still allowing the tail to wag the dog.
For the records, Owonifari is not the first market to be demolished at Oshodi. The Saudi Market under the bridge , and Mosafejo, the same loop at the gbagada end is now a garden, Kairo, Oshodi's oldest and biggest market was also demolished and rebuilt, a decision that started the modernisation of the entire area, and which would be further enhanced once work is completed on the Brown and Igbehinadun streets road project.
This is independent of the isopako project which was originally started for the plank sellers who were moved from Apakun because of frequent fire outbreaks, but was converted for the whiners so to have peace and to escape being tagged as tribalists or anti ibo.
Did I mention that the plank sellers, who are mostly Yoruba, have totally lost out in this game of perpetual victimhood?
So, if you're given the job of a hawk, please try and catch some fowls.
The original press statement, in my opinion, was sufficient, but lining up four commissioners, doing a media circuit and generally bend over backwards is encouraging these people to keep asking for more.
The government has done the right things, its job is to do things that would benefit most people, not everything that will please everybody.
Whoever is not comfortable with the action of the governor can go to court, and the governor himself should know that governance is not a popularity contest, the most effective medicines are usually bitter.
My Ten Kobo.
