Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged Nigerians in general and Ogun State residents in particular, to ensure prompt and regular payment of taxes.
The governor, who stated this while declaring open the 19th Annual Tax Conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in Abeokuta yesterday, said without prompt payment of taxes, there can be no meaningful development.
Speaking on the theme, "Taxation and Governance: The Social Contract Imperatives," he said, "the theme could not have been more apt, especially at this time when the nation is seeking ways to boost its revenue base."
The governor added that it will be in the best interest of the people to pay their taxes regularly, as a way of supporting the government in the provision of social amenities.
Amosun assured that his administration would continue to use tax payers' money in the most judicious and efficient manner in the interest of the people of Ogun State.
Speaking earlier, President of Institute, Dr. Olateju Somorin, commended the governor for raising the Internally Generated Revenue profile of the state.
She also praised the governor for the various completed and ongoing infrastructural projects in the Gateway State, saying the institute is proud to be associated with his good performance.
