Ondo Government on Tuesday presented staff of office to the new
traditional ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi,
Odundun II.
NAN reports that Aladelusi was installed as the 48th Deji of Akure after the demise of Oba Adebiyi Adesida.
Aladelusi
was unanimously selected by the kingmakers on Sunday and was
subsequently approved by the State Executive Council on Monday.
Governor
Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State said the installation of Adeludi was part
of the present administration’s efforts to ensure peaceful existence
among communities and towns.
Mimiko, represented by his Deputy,
Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, said the installation of the new monarch marked
the beginning of a new era in Akure.
He noted that the choice of
Aladelusi as the new king of Akure fulfilled the yearnings of the people
who accepted the process that produced him.
The governor
commended the kingmakers for conducting a rancour-free exercise, saying
the process conformed with the guidelines of 1999.
He held that the protest by some people was designed to draw Akure backward.
He,
however, charged the people and residents of the capital to join hands
with the new king to develop the city and that the king should extend
hand of fellowship to other contestants.
The new monarch pledged to embark on projects that will ensure the development to Akure Kingdom.
He expressed his determination to promote peace and respect constituted authorities and traditional institutions.
Aladelusi noted that the process of selection had never been stressful for kingmakers in the last 120 years.
He saluted the kingmakers for painstakingly endorsing him as the new monarch.
