Lagos State
Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday met with members of the Neighbourhood
Watch and Community Development Committees in the State, saying that the policy
thrust of his administration would be community development.
The Governor
who was represented by his Deputy Dr (Mrs) Oluranti Adebule at the interactive
session which took place at the Banquet Hall of the Lagos House, Ikeja, said
his administration would give back government to the communities.
“Let me assure
you that going forward you will be playing more significant and critical role
in this administration. The present administration is giving back government to
the communities the policy thrust of this administration”.
“We know
that if we develop the community, we have developed the local government that
means we are equally developing the state. But we will not start from up, we
will start from the bottom so that we will go up like that”, Governor Ambode
said in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna.
The Governor
also appreciated the contributions of the Neighbourhood Watch members to the
maintenance of law and order in the communities, adding that there is the need
for the Neighbourhood to embark on self appraisal in order to ensure that the
members live up to the expectations of the public.
He
reiterated the commitment of the administration to ensure the provision of 20
new rural roads in each of the Local Governments in the State as promised
during the electioneering campaigns.
Ambode
thanked the Community Development Committee members and Neighbourhood Watch men
for their support during the last general elections and for being partners in
progress with the State Government at all times.
Speaking
earlier, the Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch, Alhaji Akeem Sanni thanked
the State Government for always according the Watchers recognition; saying that
whatever the members presently lack in terms of equipment would be channeled to
the Governor.
The Chairman
of the Advisory Council of the Community Development Committees, Alhaji T.A
Quadri who spoke on behalf of his members expressed appreciation of the CDC
members to the State and would want the members to be more involved in State
Government activities at the local level.
