The received wisdom is that experience is the best teacher. This is true in almost all instances, except when it comes to governance in Nigeria.
Granted that the economy is in doldrums, that the past managers of our resources had stolen us blind and that things were worse than previously thought, but were those not the very reasons that we voted for experience at all levels?
Now, Five months down the line, most of what we see are motions without movement. No policy direction, no prioritization and no focus, just general grandstanding and posturing.
The Economy is down, the education system is comatose, and with the massive layoff in the financial and other sectors, we now have the highest concentration of skilled manpower out of the Labour market in our history.
And if you think it applies only to the formal sector, think again.
With the stone age micro management and a befuddled monetary policy, most investors, including the one man businesses are folding up faster than a bad gambler , and that is the non informal sector, which is supposed to be the bedrock of the economy.
So, five months after assumption of office, our experienced leaders are still groping in the dark.
Don't get it twisted, this is not about solving all the problems overnight, it is about providing a road map, based on experience, that the public can buy into, not with body language, a new word for standing still.
And certainly not by vowing or pledging, as some governors are fond of doing, forgetting that the campaign ended months ago, and people expect more of the doing, and less of the pledging and vowing.

While some are falling over their two left feet, making not well thought out and ill timed policy decisions that they were forced to reverse, or clarify, as they normally say, within days , the criminals are exploiting this experienced inexperience to cause havoc on our roads, our homes and creating a state of siege in our lives.
While some governors are wobbling and fumbling, some are yet to even take off, and all of them have basketload of experience that is certainly not working for us.
I know there are exceptions, but given the experience on display, if we had handed over governance to neophytes, we could not have had it worse than this.
My Ten Kobo.
