EDITORIAL ; AMBODE AND THE MAN IN THE MIRROR

A few minutes ago, the Governor of Lagos , Akin Ambode, made a public presentation of some equipment bought to fight crime in Lagos, which includes helicopters, patrol boats, cars, bikes, APCs and other sundry items that would return Lagos to the glory days of a crime less society.
I don't envy Governor Ambode, well, most times anyway. I mean, being the caretaker of the most profitable patch of real estate on the entire continent must be exhilarating, but with great power comes great responsibility.
So far, Mr. Ambode has not set the state alight, even his aides accept that he is slow, only that he is not too slow.
I have always believed that the twin monsters that make Lagos unworkable; Security and Traffic, are interwoven, and cannot be attacked separately, a fact that is very germane to the smooth running of the state.
With some of the best cops in the force at his disposal, all Mr. Ambode has to do now is ensure that there is a seamless synergy between the police Divisions, The RRS, LASTMA and any other agency responsible for either security or traffic management in the state, and itesiwaju Eko can then mean more than just a slogan.
With the provision of these equipment, Mr. Ambode has stepped fully into the water, and can no longer complain of the cold.
I wish him the best of luck.
My Ten Kobo.
