Serena Williams is calling herself "Super Serena" after stopping an alleged thief from stealing her cellphone.
The tennis star posted a photo of herself today dressed in a Superman outfit on Facebook, and recounted to her followers how she prevented a man from trying to steal her cellphone while she was eating dinner with a friend Tuesday night.
"So this guy is standing next to me and something (I have now dubbed it my SUPERHERO sense) told me to watch him," Williams wrote. "My phone was sitting in the chair but I just didn't feel right. He was there too long."
Williams described how the "common petty thief" waited until the perfect moment to secretly swipe the tennis player's cellphone off of the chair, and then swiftly walked away.
"I looked at the chair, than shouted "Omg that dude took my phone!!" Williams wrote.
"He began to run but I was too fast," Williams wrote. "I was upon him in a flash!"
Williams said she asked the man whether he had "accidentally" taken her phone, and while the man insisted that it was a mistake, he eventually handed the tennis star her cellphone back.
Surveillance cameras caught the entire incident on camera.
"When I got back into the restaurant I received a standing ovation," Williams wrote. "I was proud. I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bully's [sic] and other men. It was a win for the ladies!"
Williams urged women to take away from her story the lesson that you should stand up for yourself, and not be a victim in situations like these.
"Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero!" Williams wrote.
