I would like to commend the Management of African Newspapers Nigeria PLC, Publishers of the Tribune titles, for the swift and decisive action they took to quickly nip the fallout of the Sagay saga in the bud.
What is worrisome is the way people jumped on the moral pontification bandwagon even after the Management has done the right thing by retracting the story and firing the reporter.
I know first hand that Tribune has issues, but lack of dilligent gatekeeping is not one of them.
So one story slipped by the net, that should not be a reason for a public lynching and an avenue to deride the entire industry.
It is just a wake up call that the ghost writers who always feed false and fabricated stories on the social media have moved to the mainstream, after realising that their fabricated tales no longer work on the discerning , only on the gullible.
The Tribune has been around for Sixty six years, and with the way management reacted today, might still be around for another sixty six years.
My Ten Kobo.
