The owners of Man City must be from another planet.
How can you announce the employment of a new coach, who is not billed to take over until the summer, on a team that was competing on four fronts in the middle of the season?By leaving the current coach in charge till summer while you have effectively undermined his authority, you not only killed the morale of the team, but also destroyed any incentive for performance.
That is why I totally agree with the coach in fielding young lads from their academy to play Chelsea.
Any coach in his position will want to go out on a high, by winning the ultimate prize: the UEFA champions league as his swan song.
And for this he would sacrifice every other competition, including the Premiership and the FA cup, to achieve this.
Of course the FA insistence on loading the calendar with cup ties in between important European engagements, which is jading the players and negatively affecting their national team, is not really helping matters.
The Citizens are going to present an interesting case study in brinksmanship in the upcoming months.
