The last few days, the social media was filled with reactions to the multiplication error made by the Finance Minister, Kemi ADEOSUN, when she said that 16+6=24, instead of 22.
But instead, typical of post Business As Usual Nigeria, most people, in a fit of partisan hysteria, left leprosy in search of the cure for ringworm, spending hours on end trending the Minister's mistake, instead of outrage at her exposure of another cesspool of sleaze .
To me it is not only a reflection of how low we have sunk as a people, but the latest in a series of counterattack strategies by the looters of our commonwealth to divert our attention from the substance by concentrating on the banal.
Mrs. ADEOSUN, from my observation since she took office, has, in a clear departure from the past, been unambiguous in defining her mission within the Buhari administration’s template for probity and accountability. And while she is not perfect, she has not been found wanting in her core area of expertise by her boss.
While it is our constitutional duty to criticise our leaders, it is assumed it would be on issues that directly affect our lives, or on conducts we see as inimical to our nation's interest, not by wasting man hours gloating over a simple error by one of the most accomplished professionals of her generation.
My Ten Kobo.
