LAGOS TO BRIDGE STAFF SKILLS GAP

Lagos State Government has disclosed that it has repackaged its training programmes for the year 2016 to bridge identified skills gap and improve staff on-the-job performance whilst also equipping participants with needed skills for personal development.

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of the year 2016 training programmes for staff of the State Government at Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo on Tuesday.
Dr. Benson said State Government employees are expected to key into the vision of the Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode by leveraging on the available training programmes which had been specifically packaged to meet the identified gaps in the system through carefully selected and meritorious training consultants.
“The administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has given the training of its staff the much desired impetus through the earmarking of substantial budgetary allocation for training purposes and effective service delivery to people of the State through a motivated workforce,” he added.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Folasade Ogunnaike opined that the state government has revitalised its training programmes with more qualified training consultants, stressing that the training sessions will not be business as usual.
It was disclosed that the training programmes would hold successively with beneficiaries from the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the State government and would be based on officers’job needs as stated in the work schedule, urging the participants, to share the knowledge gained at the training with others who are not privileged to benefit from the programme.
As part of the training modules, staff would undergo training sessions on: Use of English, Writing and Public Speaking, Developing coaching ability and Leadership Creativity in the Public Sector.
Present at the occasion were the Permanent Secretary, Teachers’ Establishments & Pensions Office (TEPO), Mrs. Sewanu Amosu; Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Pensions Office, Mrs. Funmilayo Balogun and the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Establishments and Training, Mr. Oluwatoyin Onisarotu.
