The first thing that strikes you about Loye Hamzat, the ebullient publisher of celebrity magazine, News Of The People, is his boyish charm.
Loye Newspeople, as he is popularity called, is an embodiment of the risk taker, a man who decided to go solo at a time it was assumed that you need financial backers to float a magazine.
He thus became the first in a long list of solo publishers, most of whom passed through his magazine at one point, thereby leading a pack of young, self sufficient, self assured mobile publishers, especially in the Celebrity /soft sell segment.
Loye, a scion of the Alabi Adeeyo family of Oonto Compound, Isale Oyo in Oyo City. A City whose traditions others copy, but which never copied anyone, was only living up to his ancestral heritage.
Starting his Journalism career in 1992 at the defunct Citizen Magazine, he later moved on to City People where he served as the General Editor between 2000 and 2002, before the lure of international engagement became irresistible.
He joined the world renowned international adoption agency, Childline International, as its African Regional Director, before proceeding to the University of Lincoln, UK for his Masters in Social Policy and Public Practice.
But the journalist in him would not be denied.
And so, ten years ago, without any financial backer, without any partners, relying solely on his savings, his goodwill, and his drive, he started News Of The People.
And now, a decade later. Loye looks back at the journey of the last ten years and said he is extremely grateful for all God has done for him.
His moving into publishing was basically premised on his desire to make a difference.
But as we can see, he has done more than that.
But as we can see, he has done more than that.
He has inspired others to become media entrepreneurs, a fact not lost on his friends as he marks ten years as a publisher.
Congratulations on reaching this milestone, Obaloye Hamzat, Alabi Adeeyo, Oyo is proud of you, Oyo State is proud of you, and I am proud of you, my friend.
Here is wishing you many more years of telling the News of the people, to the people.
My Ten Kobo+
