The Lagos State government has commended construction giant, Julius Berger Plc, for choosing to rehabilitate the Otto-Wharf road within Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Council Development Area as a corporate social responsibility project.
The rehabilitation of the road by the construction company commences on Saturday July 1, 2017.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the palliative works which are expected to last for not more than three weeks will bring succor to commuters and residents in the area when it is completed.
The statement said Julius Berger's commendable effort is coming at a time that corporate citizens are collaborating with both the State and Federal government to rehabilitate bad roads within the Wharf-Apapa axis.
"What Julius Berger has elected to do is commendable especially given the fact that they have not been awarded any contract on the road. This CSR effort will at least make this Federal road passable pending the time that a comprehensive reconstruction of the road will be awarded," the statement said.
It added that Julius Berger's gesture is worthy of emulation by other corporate bodies since the government is unable to provide such infrastructural services alone; adding that the gesture will also silence some opposition politicians who may want to mislead the public by taking credit for a project that is wholly initiated and funded by a corporate entity.
The statement urged commuters and residents who might be affected by the repair works in the area to bear with the constriction company.
It assured that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be available throughout the repair period to manage the traffic incidents that may occur as a result of the road rehabilitation works.
