His Royal Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Olasupo Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland has pronounced his Royal blessings on Goldberg, a brand from the stables of Nigerian Breweries Plc for being a preserver of the Yoruba culture and tradition in the Southwest region.
The monarch made this proclamation when the team from Nigerian Breweries Plc paid a courtesy visit to the Oba in his palace on Friday, July 21, 2017 as part of activities for the grand finale of Ariya Repete, Goldberg’s talent hunt competition for indigenous Yoruba music, holding in the city on that day.
“Looking at Nigerian Breweries’ commitment to the cultural values of the Yoruba people with the activities of Goldberg in the Southwest, I am convinced that Goldberg is not just ours, but the cultural beer of repute that preserves and promotes indigenous Yoruba customs” the Oba affirmed. The King further acknowledged that Goldberg has been consistent over the years with their palace visitations to traditional rulers as well as championing cultural causes.
Oba Adetunji used the occasion to highlight the importance of preserving the Yoruba culture through music and commended Goldberg for Ariya Repete initiative that seeks to discover and promote indigenous Yoruba music (Fuji and Juju music) thereby helping to preserve the Yoruba musical heritage.
Tayo Adelaja, Public Affairs Manager, West/Mid-West, Nigerian Breweries Plc, expressed appreciation to the monarch for his proclamation and warm reception and revealed that Ibadan has always been a centre of cultural display and good music that must be respected.
“Kabiyesi is a lover of music and preserver of our traditions. So we cannot come to Ibadan with a big cultural musical concert without seeking Kabiyesi’s blessings,” Adelaja said.
He promised that Goldberg will continue to promote the culture of the people of South Western Nigeria, in line with the brand's 3-point agenda of culture, respect and enjoyment.
