ALADE MARKET RELOCATION PLAN: IKEJA GIVES UPDATE

The Executive Secretary, Ikeja Local Government, Mr. Adekunle Dally-Adeokun has expressed optimism that the site relocation project plan for Alade market will stimulate a level of efficiency that is second to none in the history of local government market administration in the State.

Mr. Dally-Adeokun, who made the assertion during a media tour of the proposed site, disclosed that the Alade Market development plan is just an aspect of the council’s economic master plan that is aimed at increasing the economic viability of that market.
He emphasized that amenities that would be provided to give the market a competitive edge include a standby 350 KVA generator for general use, in order to reduce pollution and fuel costs for traders, an access road built with interlocking concrete for durability and aesthetics, and a fence round the market to prevent unauthorized access and improved security.
The Executive Secretary also stated that although the project had kicked off before the inception of his administration, the main focus of the his team since assumption of duty has been to try and complete the project within the shortest time possible and ensure a rancour-free transition that will be governed by the rules of fair play for all concerned.
To this end, the Executive Secretary disclosed that the construction of more key-clamps and an additional 120 lock-up shops is currently underway, stressing that this is in addition to the existing 180 shops that have already been constructed by the Council which will increase the total number of lock-up shops to 300.
He hinted that more than 200 traders have responded to the Council’s notice by indicating their willingness to pay the agreed rates for the shops, assuring all stakeholders of the council’s readiness to continue to provide essential services and eradicate the menace of street trading in the area.
While expressing gratitude to the Iyaloja of Alade Market and her committee for their unflinching support, Dally-Adeokun appealed to the traders to join hands with the Council towards a smooth transition process.
