The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has announced plans by the State Government and the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to redevelop the National Museum at Onikan in Lagos.
The Governor, made the announcement on Monday during a visit to the National Museum, in company of the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Ambode expressed optimism that the collaborative effort of the State and the Federal Government would be beneficial to the country in terms of development and preservation of monuments, referring to the on-going multi-storey car park complex being undertaken by the State Government near the National Museum as a project that will compliment the envisaged collaborative arrangement.
He further stated that the expected gains of the partnership with the Federal Government on the National Museum will further reduce the gaps in job creation with the engagement of artisans and other related skills, which will in the long run cause a leap in the State GDP and have multiplier effect on the economy.
He reiterated his resolve to use tourism, hospitality, entertainment and sports to drive development in the State.
In his remarks, the Minister expressed happiness at the interest shown and demonstrated by the State Government and referred to the partnership as “a dream come true for Nigerians’’.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Folarin Coker; Special Adviser to the Governor on Arts and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, while the Minister also had the Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Mallam Yusuf Hamza, in his entourage.
