The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has disclosed the arrest of a fake 2nd Lieutenant Army Officer at the Headquarters of the Task Force, Ikeja.
Mr. Egbeyemi said the suspect presented himself as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army in order to secure the release of an impounded commercial vehicle by the operatives of the Task Force but his claim was discovered to be false.
The Task Force boss explained that according to preliminary investigation, the 27-year old suspect, Mr. Oluwayelu Adeboye of No. 4, Union Street, Dopemu, Agege was rusticated from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in 2014 for impersonation and had at various times deceived many security personnel across the country.
He also said further investigation revealed that the suspect had claimed being the son of a General in the Nigerian Army during an admission interview into Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), while he had also impersonated officers of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Police Force on different occasions in order to secure the release of suspects or detainees at police stations across Lagos metropolis.
Mr. Egbeyemi said “the suspect had confessed helping various individuals to secure release of their impounded vehicles from law enforcement officers through telephone conversations and had been remunerated for such tasks in the past”.
The suspect also said he was on his way to the West African Examination Council, Ogba to collect his original School Certificate results with examination number 20108040DC when operatives of the Agency arrested the driver of the commercial vehicle.
While calling on Lagosians to be wary of dubious individuals, Egbeyemi warned that the Task Force and its officers would not condone intimidation by any military or para-military officer in the discharge of its responsibilities.
