Apex body of the North, Arewa Consultative Forum, has commiserated with the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shites, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, over the killing of his three sons and 31 members of the sect in July this year.
The Forum, Led by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Ambassador Adamu Muhammad, described the incident as unfortunate and commended the calmness of Zakzaky and the restrain exercised by members of the movement, which it described as unprecedented.
The team, according to the media officer of the movement, Mallam
Ibrahim Usman, in a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on
Friday, presented a letter of condolence to the Shites leader.
The BoT members in attendance were the Secretary-general of the ACF, Col. John Ubah (retd.), who was the former Governor of Kebbi state; Col. Muhammad Abdu (retd.), Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, and Engr Abubakar Umar.
Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had concluded plans to hold a special public hearing on the gruesome killing of the sons and members of the sect.
Soldiers allegedly opened fire on a procession of the sect members in Zaria, killing 34 members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria including three biological sons of Sheikh Zakzaky, and wounding over a hundred others.
The public hearing is scheduled for November, this year.
Chairman of the NHRC, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, had during a recent visit to Zakzaky promised to do all that was legally possible to see that justice waa done and the culprits brought to book.
