We have been without public power supply in my neighborhood for the past one week, and for some adjacent areas, over a month.
Now, not only is the entire area in a lockdown, roads that were not built to accommodate that amount of traffic and those heavy duty trucks and buses, are literally buckling under the load.
Now, without prejudice to the good intentions of government, methinks that the closure and the diversions are not well planned or well executed.
For starters, the roads that were to absorb the diverted traffic ought to have been rehabilitated before the closure, the route for heavy duty vehicles ought to have been properly marked out, and all roads marked one-way to be used otherwise for the period.
But the most irritating aspect is that of Ikeja Disco. I thought the reasons PHCN was unbundled and sold off was to enhance efficiency and roll over time. So far, their response to these crises had been sluggish, lukewarm and unprofessional, confirming our initial suspicion that the sale was to share assets, not to improve service delivery.
Right now, between the inept contractors, a blind PWC, and the useless Ikeja disco, life in that axis is not only dark, slow and grinding, but there is no sign of immediate relief.
We can only but hope.
My Ten Kobo.
