Oyo presents N.1m to primary school pupil for academic excellence

The Oyo State government has said that it would continue to reward academic excellence, just as it presented a cash reward of N0.1m to the overall winner, Miss Yetunde Lawal, in the 2016 nationwide mathematical competition organized by the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) for primary schools pupils in the country. 


This was in addition to the honour bestowed on, Miss. Lawal, who was a pupil of a public school, Ansarudeen Basic School (ABS), Fiditi as at the time of writing the examination, by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi at the 2015 Oyo State Officials Wives’ Association (OYSOWA) and the state House of Assembly for her academic feats in various examinations and competitions.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, while presenting the cheque to Miss Lawal at the Conference Room of the ministry on Tuesday, commended her for her various feats, saying that she (Miss Lawal) has demonstrated that public schools pupils and students get quality education with her excellent achievements.
Professor Olowofela appreciated the efforts of Governor Abiola Ajimobi for fulfilling his promises to reward academic excellence and also acknowledged the goodwill  of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC) for organizing the competition for all final year pupils in primary schools, with a view to enhance the academic standard of pupils nationwide.
The commissioner charged pupils and students to be diligent and responsible by facing their studies and be of good conduct, stressing that the state government would not condone indiscipline among pupils and would not reverse its stand on no automatic promotion.  
Olowofela congratulated the awardee for her steadfastness and determination to excel and consequently commended the staffs of A.B.S, Fiditi, for their efforts towards giving Miss Lawal Morufat the required knowledge and education which has made her to excel among her peers.
While speaking at the event, Miss Morufat appreciated the kind gesture of Gov. Abiola Ajimobi for the gift and promised to work harder and continue be a role model for other pupils and students.
In his response, the father of the awardee Mr. Lawal Mutiu appreciated the state government for its disposition towards reforming the education sector, advising that parents should encourage and support their children because education is the best legacy they can give to them.
