FIVE MORE INEC RECs TO BOW OUT MARCH 4TH

Five Resident National Electoral Commissioners (RECs) will tomorrow, March 4th, complete their tenure in the service of the Commission. This will bring to total 33 RECs who have served the Commission and have run out their tenures after meritorious service.

This was disclosed by a member of the Information and Voter Education Committee and National Commissioner, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, yesterday at the Commissions Headquarters in Abuja during a press briefing.

She disclosed that the RECs whose tenure end tomorrow are: Prof. Jacob Jatau (Federal Capital Territory), Mr. Segun Agbaje (Ondo), Barrister Austin Okojie (Bayelsa), Mr. Nasir Ayilara (Niger) and Mr. Habu Hinna Zarma (Taraba).  “We thank these gentlemen for their contributions to the work of the Commission over the last five years and wish them well in their future endeavors,” she said.

Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu also disclosed that the Commission, acting on the interim report of the EFCC where 202 staff of the Commission was accused of infraction, has invited all indicted staff to appear before an Administrative Panel. She assured that the final report of investigation into the matter would be considered by the Commission next week.

She also gave an update on the 28 (plus one ad-hoc staff, totaling 29) indicted staff in the Rivers state re-run elections. The National Commissioner said: “their cases are currently being handled by the Commission’s Disciplinary Committee.

Based on the Commission’s earlier resolve to overhaul the Rivers State INEC office, Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu said:  “all directing staff, that is, the Administrative Secretary, all Heads of Department, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors as well as all the 23 Electoral Officers who head Local Government offices are being redeployed out of Rivers state immediately”.
