The Oyo State Government has said that the inaugurated School Governing Boards for Secondary Schools in the state is a management vehicle for the improvement of educational standards in the state and not a money making avenue for the members.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, who stated this at the ongoing sensitization programme organized for members of the SGB across the state, explained that the boards were inaugurated with a mandate to ensure improved academic standards and efficiency of teachers.
Professor Olowofela added that the boards also have the mandate to provide adequate teaching and learning resources and ensure full participation of stakeholders in effective management of schools among others.
According to him "the Abiola Ajimobi led administration's resolve to rebuild the education sector and put a stop to poor academic performance of students in public schools is a task that must be done. I implore all stakeholders here present to come together irrespective of our beliefs, academic and financial status and revamp our education sector.
SGB is not a money making avenue, we have organized stakeholders to come together to join hands with the state government to arrest the fallen standard of education in the state. We know as a government that we cannot do it alone and that is why we have called on individuals, various groups and organizations as well as stakeholders in the education sector to collaborate with the government to uplift the education standard,” Olowofela emphasized.
The commissioner reiterated that the Government cannot be present everywhere, urging that all stakeholders must leave no stone unturned at ensuring a total turn around in the education sector.
He said the program will enhance qualitative service delivery in all public schools in Oyo State.
