Worried by the sufferings of millions of Nigerians occasioned by the
astronomical increase in electricity tariff by the National Electricity
Commission, NEC, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the regulatory
body to review the tariff downwards with immediately effect.
The
Minister of power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo disclosed this, Tuesday, while
fielding questions on CNBC cable network on the programme, Power Lunch
West Africa.
The Minister said the
President expressed discomfort on hearing the news about the suffering
Nigerians are passing through with the new electricity tariff and
directed the regulator, NEC to ensure that the service charges are
reduced without delay, irrespective of the reasons for the increase.
‘‘The President was not comfortable with the astronomical increase in
electricity tariff and advised NEC to reduce that with immediate effect
and that is being done.’’
