I.G. SETS UP SPECIAL INVESTIGATION UNIT ON ELECTORAL OFFENCES

To stem the tide of electoral violence that might beset the 2015 General Elections, the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has constituted a Special Investigation Unit For Electoral Offences.

In a letter to the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, dated 16^th February, 2015, and signed by Mr. Solomon A. Arase, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, FHQ – Abuja), the Inspector-General said the Unit was set up to ensure that Electoral offences were not only detected but diligently investigated and prosecuted in collaboration with the Commission.

The Special Investigation Unit on Electoral Offenses is headed by CP Nwodibo Ekechukwu, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Legal Section of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID), two Co-ordinators, six Team Leaders, twenty-nine members and 26 supporting staff.
