NO MIRACLES WITHOUT CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT- GANI ADAMS
The National Coordinator of the Odua Peoples Congress, Otunba Gani Adams has said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari would not perform any miracle or magic regarding the myriad of challenges currently confronting the Nigerian nation, if voted into power.
Adams said the “change” now being harped upon by the APC was a mere slogan, which would not bring about any positive development for Nigeria, without an amendment of the country’s constitution.
The OPC national coordinator spoke during the 2015 celebrations of the Olumo and Lisabi Day Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Adams said it was not enough to continue to pay mere lip service to “change” when the constitution, which was the basis of governance in Nigeria, remained fraught with so many fundamental shortcomings.
He stressed the need for the country to return to true Federalism in which individual states would develop at their own pace and run its government according to the laws peculiar to its environment.
“I don’t believe in change at the individual level. Nigeria has got to a stage that our system is over-rotten. We have got to a stage that we are recycling some families in government since the 60s and we are recycling some Mafias. When we are looking for original change in Nigeria, it’s not about the individual or personality. It’s about the constitution, the system, and the institution. You can only change the system through a genuine constitution by the people.
“With the type of constitution given to us in 1999, no millions of Buhari can move this country forward without a constitutional change; no millions of Jonathan can move it forward, if you don’t change the constitution. If you don’t practise true Federalism according to the way it should be practised like in the United States, Nigeria cannot move forward.
“You can imagine, the individual state cannot control their own security, the order must come from AbuThe National Coordinator of the Odua Peoples Congress, Otunba Gani Adams has said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari would not perform any miracle or magic regarding the myriad of challenges currently confronting the Nigerian nation, if voted into power.
