Governorship candidates of 10 opposition parties in Lagos State on
Friday stepped down and declared support for the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.
The candidates of Accord
Party (AP), Mr. Adeshina Buruji; Independent Democrats (ID), Akinola
Obadia; Action Alliance (AA), Ishola Aregbesola; Allied Congress Party
of Nigeria (ACPN), Babatunde Sarumi; African People Alliance (APA), Mr.
Abioudun Oyegunle; Progressives Peoples
Alliance (PPA); Mrs. Pauline Ojochidi; KOWA Party, Mr. Victor Adeniji;
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Adeshina Olayokun; (NNPP),
Mr. Sesan Olatunde and Citizens Popular Party (CPP) were the candidates
that dropped their ambition for the APC candidate.
Speaking on behalf of the other candidates at the declaration event
held at the Ondo Hall, Ikeja Airport Hotel and which was attended by the
candidates and the party chairmen, the ID candidate, Obadia said the
decision was taken in the interest of the people of Lagos State.
"What we are saying is that we, the 10 undersigned governorship
candidates, have shelved our individual gubernatorial ambitions and
aspirations as we unanimously give our unwavering solidarity to work
together with Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of the APC.
"By thi,s we
enjoin all our teeming supporters across the state to take this
declaration and sound it loud and clear that Mr. Ambode is the only
candidate to take Lagos to the next level,"
Similarly, in another
event held at the Blue Roof, LTV 8, Lagos, the coalition of Christian
Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) in Lagos State also endorsed the
Ambode candidacy.
Addressing the gathering, the chairman,
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South-west, Mr. Magnus Atilade
said: "Today is the first day that Christian are coming together to
contribute to the political situation in Nigeria.
"We want you to get your PVC; your PVC is your ticket for change; please vote for change," he urged the people.
Ambode who expressed gratitude to the Christian community for the support, promised to run an inclusive government if elected.
