HOSPITAL DETAINS TRIPLETS OVER N.7M UNPAID BILL, IN DELTA

The Group Christian Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State capital, has held the triplets born into family of Mr. Godswill Echenim hostage over inability to pay N723, 100 medical bills incurred.
The Eagle online gathered that the management of the hospital insisted the triplet would remain in the hospital until payment is effected.
The triplets are their father’s first set of children since he got married over five years ago.
They have been in the hospital for over seven weeks that they were delivered by their mother.
The father, a fashion designer in Owa-Alero, Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state said the medical bill was exorbitant for his family to pay.
He said the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in July this year force him to take his wife to the private hospital.
Their mother, a graduate of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma in Edo State, is a complete house wife.
Speaking to the Eagle online in Asaba, on Tuesday, Echenim said he registered his wife at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, for ante-natal before the prolonged NMA strike was declared.
“I brought her here for the delivery. The kids were delivered through Caesarean Section (CS) and were taken to the incubator where they spent one month plus before they were discharged. Now the bill has come up to N723,100.00 and still running because we cannot pay.
“I am appealing to the government and the general public for help so that I would be able to bring up the babies in the way of God. We have spent over N60,000 for the nurse that has been taking care of the babies at night.
“I have started buying food for them and they take a full can for three days. We buy pampers for N1500.00 which lasts for just three days. This is besides the drugs we have been buying. It is just too much for us, we need help from the public,” Echenim appealed.
