A frontline member of the All Progressives Congress and lawmaker representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has admitted that there are a lot of “goodies” in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Following the defection of the ex-Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, from the APC to the PDP, Saraki’s online followers had been prodding him to ascertain his political future.
The former Kwara State Governor said on Twitter that his decision to defect from the PDP to the APC wasn’t an easy one.
But Saraki assured his followers that despite the enticing and pleasing offers in the PDP, he would stay put in the APC to actualise his political ambitions.
“I stand committed furthering the Nigerian project through the progressive platform of the APC. Together, we will take back Nigeria for Nigerians. My decision to leave the ruling party wasn’t so easy. That is where all the goodies are. But one has to do what is right for the people,” Saraki stated on his Twitter page.
He added that he was ready to make “any ultimate sacrifice” to ensure that Nigeria improves, adding that his love for country was over personal ambitions.
The lawmaker further urged Nigerians to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission, and register to get a permanent voters’ card.
“We only have this country to call home. Do you still need a reason to register to vote? Remember your vote affects price of everything from garri, fish to petrol. All you need is register to get a permanent voters’ card. You will use your vote to checkmate us,” Saraki said.
Meanwhile, Sunday Dare, media advisor to a national leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu, has alleged that he has uncovered plans by the Presidency to implicate key aides of top leaders of the party.
Dare wrote on his Twitter page that the hatchet job was as a result of the fall out of the just concluded Osun State Governorship election in which the PDP lost.
Stating that his name “came up,” in what he described as the “sinister” plans of the Presidency, Dare raised the alarm that the despotic regime of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, had returned.
“I make this allegation with every sense of responsibility. The Presidency plans to implicate a few senior strategic aides of top APC leaders. Still on the sinister plan, credible information says government plans to link these persons close to APC leaders to a criminal gang if their arrest fails.
“I am not taking it lightly because my name came up. I will take steps to expose and fight them. The IBB and (Sani) Abacha days are here again. Quietly and in a most sinister way, after the Osun State election, the Presidency is compiling a list of perceived enemies, journalists, lawyers and online activists,” Tinubu’s media aide wrote.
Dare insisted that the type of leaders Nigeria seeks are those who can rise above parochial interests and provide good governance.
He warned that power was “so transient”, adding that those in power today must realise that God put them in position for a purpose to serve the interests of the citizenry.
“No Nigerian President has been so blessed and so troubled on all sides at the same time. Only he (Jonathan) holds the key to stemming the tide. The political bickering and the desperate rush to win all electoral battles inflict mortal wounds on Nigeria. We will all pay for it, sadly,” he stated.
The Presidency has, however, dismissed the insinuation that President Goodluck Jonathan was having grudges with the opposition over the Osun State election.
Presidential Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, quoted Jonathan on Twitter as saying that the President was not interested in winning governorship elections for the PDP at all costs.
“Nigerians are only asking for one thing in the elections; transparency, free & fair elections, and I have promised them I am from the PDP, the ruling party, but I don’t use that strength to make sure that PDP must win by all means.
“All governorship elections that have been conducted, so far, you can agree with me that they have been free and fair. Votes must count. If I was interested in manipulating elections, my party would not be losing these governorship elections,” Omokri quoted Jonathan as saying.
