AKETI AND THE DANGER OF THE SINGLE NARRATIVE

The governor elect for Ondo state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has been basking in the euphoria of his victory at the polls. Despite a rancorous primaries which nearly tore his party,APC, asunder in the state, which led to the exit of some power stalwarts like Olusola Oke and Bola Ilori, two strong party stalwarts and grassroots mobilisers to decamp to the AD, barely six weeks to the election, Mr. Akeredolu deserves to enjoy his victory.
However, in the process, it appears that Mr. Akeredolu, who promised to heal the divisions in the party at the state level, has gone on a binge of triumphinism. First he downgraded one of the leaders of the party in the zone, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to a mere state leader, and claims the party structure is supreme.
All well and good, however, one wonders after reading a press statement from his camp this week, how the same man touting the supremacy of the party is now working to destabilize and take over the party. My understanding is that Akeredolu was elected as Ondo State Governor and not the state chairman of the Ondo APC.
My advise to him is to first heal the party, bring every dissatisfied member back under the fold, and the party would be his for the taking without the coercion he is attempting now.
Any other option will lead to further division and dissatisfaction in the party.
He should remember, Buhari is for everybody and for nobody. Olusola Oke, Bola Ilori and others are not strangers to Buhari and his core.
It's a dangerous venture to dig too deep pit for your enemies, you might just end up being the occupant the pit. The people Akeredolu is overreaching himself to abuse today may suddenly become the darling of the Villa if and when the permutations changes. Akeredolu may be unknowingly setting himself for an ultimate fall.
I repeat Buhari is for everybody and for nobody. If in doubt, ask Magu.
My Ten Kobo.
