Group commends parents on compliance with Oyo Government’s directive

A non-governmental organization, Good Governance Group (GGG), Oyo State, has commended parents of Isale Oyo Community High School, Community High school, Ojo and Community Secondary School Iyana-Idi Ose for complying with governments directive to renovate the burnt schools by some students over the no automatic promotion policy of the Oyo State government.

The group said that the parents of these schools have demonstrated the desired level of responsibility, noting that by renovating the schools, they have lent their voice and support to the government’s policy as well as taking responsibility for their children’s action.
The coordinator of the group, Mr. Gbolagade Olatunji, in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan, stated that the parents of the children of the burnt schools have proved that they value the future of their children through purposeful education and are in firm support of government to provide quality education for all and sundry.
Olatunji urged parents who are aggrieved with the state government’s no automatic policy to take a cue from the actions of the parents of the three schools being renovated, stressing that government’s reform in the education sector should be supported by all stakeholders.
He however appealed to the government and its employees not to treat the implementation of the recently released white paper on education with kid gloves, urging that the government should walk the talk about its commitment to restore the lost glory in the education sector.
According to the coordinator of the group, “It is a good thing that the government is trying to arrest the decadence in the education sector. Over the years, we viewed the commitment of the present administration towards education as average but recently, the situation has changed.

“We have watched with keen interest the activities of the government to stop the rot in the education sector. While we commend them for taking the bull by the horn, we, at the same appeal to them to be firm in implementing their policies to arrest the situation,” Olatunji added.
