Death toll from yesterday's Bauchi Central Market explosion has risen to 17.
Chairman Bauchi State Relief Distribution Committee of the State
Emergency Management Agency, Mallam Mohammed Inuwa Bello, stated this
while speaking with newsmen in Bauchi today.
He said: "this morning we have evacuated more corpses from the market to the Hospital."
Bello said: "So far 17 people are confirmed dead, 15 treated and
discharged and other 27 injured are still receiving treatment.
"The victims were evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital ATBUTH where they are receiving treatment"
Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Bauchi Command DSP Haruna Mohammed
said: "three suspects have been arrested for looting in the affected
Market. However, normalcy has been restored by combined Security Forces,
and patrols are being intensified within and outside the surrounding.
"Investigation is in progress to ascertain cause of the explosion and level of damages to property," he said.
Last night, the Police had confirmed Seven People died ,25 injured.
