There were anxieties yesterday as many workers could not access their December salaries to prepare for the Christmas celebration, Daily Trust findings showed last night.
Workers from ministry of finance, information and foreign affairs among
others reported that they have not received payment alerts as at
yesterday night.
As at the time of filling this report, many civil
servants who pleaded for anonymity, have confirmed to Daily Trust that
they have not received their salaries.
Some of the workers however said they were still expecting to receive alerts from their respective banks.
The
delay in salaries affected staff of about 14 Ministries who were
alleged to misuse the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System
(IPPIS) system.
Daily Trust learnt that the wrong action on the
IPPIS system, which is programmed to reject irregular procedures, had
locked the MDAs in question out of the system. This led to the
unfortunate delays.
Efforts to get the reaction from the Ministry
of Finance on the delay proved abortive as emails to the ministry were
not responded to up to press time.
But some workers in the office of the Head of Service confirmed receiving their salaries together with allowances yesterday.
“We
at the office of the Head of Service received our salaries and
allowances, but I don’t know for other ministries,” a worker who doesn’t
want to be named, press said.
Due to the Christmas
break which will commence from today till Monday, banks will not open
to process the salaries even if forwarded by the ministries.
