FIRE GUTS FORMER POLICE HQ

Fire broke out Friday morning in one of the offices on the last floor of the old Police Force Headquaters building, on Moloney Street, Lagos, western Nigeria.

Items worth thousands of naira were destroyed before men of the the Lagos State Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to other offices in the building,
The cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
Sources informed P.M.NEWS that surge in eletricity may have caused the fire outbreak because, according to them, the fire broke out moments after eletricity was restored to the building.
“We started seeing smoke billowing from one of the offices on the last floor of the building at about 7am and all the polcemen on duty tried their best to have access into the apartment but it was not possible because the office was locked. But we thank God that the fire service men responded early to put out the fire before it could spread to other offices in the building,” an witness said.
Efforts made to speak with the senior police officers at the scene proved futile as none of them was wiilling to talk about the incident.
