Information reaching DAILY POST say the former minister of state,
education, Chief Nyesome Wike has been declared the winner of the Rivers
State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s governorship ticket.
Wike
was declared the winner of the primary election by the Chairman of the
PDP governorship primary electoral committee, Etifa Bekeakpo. The detail
of the result shows that from all 319 wards
which produced a total of 1,150 delegates for the primary election, the
total votes cast were 1,108. By the time the collation of votes came to
an end, Wike has swept a total of 1,083 of the votes.
Though 16 of the governorship aspirants boycotted the exercise, the primary election nevertheless held.
One of the aggrieved aspirants, Pawariso Horsefall however condemned
the venue of the primary election while counting was in progress.
Horsefall said it is wrong for anyone to hold election in a public school.
Meanwhile, former governor Peter Odili downplayed the boycott by 16 of
the party’s governorship aspirant, saying nobody forced them to be
aspirants and nobody should query their decision to stay away, adding
that whoever emerges in the on- going primaries will be the next
governor of Rivers State.
A confident Odili, who said he
“understands the game” stressed that the absence of some of the
aspirants will not have any effect on the winner of the primaries.
According to him, “this is democracy at work; the majority are
speaking. And let me say here that PDP has taken the right step to win
election in 2015.
“How can you say 16 are not here? There are 8
agents here so it means 8 people are represented to express their
intent. It’s a voluntary process. If you didn’t question them for
aspiring why question them for being absent.
“I have been
involved in this game over the years and I can tell you that whoever
emerges in this election today will become the next governor of Rivers
State.”
